Literacy: Learning about Letters!

Hi parents!

If any of you are interested in listening to me talk about how the alphabet works (hint: it's more complicated than you think!) then feel free to watch my videos below. You may learn something new :) I think it could be helpful at home when you're helping your little one with their literacy.

Thursday May 14th

Literacy: Review sight words learned so far (I, am, a, see, the, and, is, it). Write a sentence/sentences using 3 words :)

Mathematics: Practice your subitizing! Parents, if you're looking for a subitizing game, I've attached a document you can print out. Cut each number out and place them upside down (I glued them on cardstock so they couldn't see the amount through the paper). You play this game like a memory game, except you don't have to match tally marks with tally marks, fingers with fingers, etc. In fact, there aren't matches for those. Instead, you want to match the quantity (i.e., 5 fingers with 5 tally marks, 10 in a 10 frame and 10 fingers being held up). We've played this in class before :)

Happy Wednesday!

Literacy: Complete 1 or 2 of these scrambled sentence worksheets. They will cut out the bottom squares and then they need to arrange them into an order that makes sense and glue it on the space above. Then they can draw a picture that matches that sentence! If you want more of a challenge, have them try to write the word of the animal :)

Tuesday May 12th

Literacy: Read 2 books on Raz kids. Practice recording one! (I realized not too long ago that I can hear and respond to any books you read) :)

Parents: Grab a piece of scrap paper and draw this on it:

Have your child gather 5, small objects from around the house. Read the following sentences to them. They will put one small object in each box for each word. You can read the sentence first, or read it slowly so they can do it at the same time. I show you an example in this video:

NOTE: Some children will put a magnet in for each SYLLABLE for a word (example 3 for basketball). Remind them that even though it has 3 syllables, it's only ONE word.

Sentences:

"I like to play basketball"
"The boy is sad"
"My favourite food is pasta"
"I love you mom"
"I like flowers"
"The dog is happy"
"I like chicken and mashed potatoes"

Weekly/Monday Learning :)

Hi families!

I hope you had a great weekend and a happy Mother's Day!

Thank you to the 4 of you who reached out and gave their feedback regarding weekly learning/daily learning. It was split right down the middle so I will continue to do both and you can continue to pick and choose what you'd like to do :)

I will just be changing the format a little bit for the daily learning. Instead of doing linked google documents, I'm just going to post them in here, since half the time the links don't work!

I made it my goal this weekend to put some makeup on and get in front of the camera, haha. I've made a few videos that I'll be sharing with you this week!

Practice writing some uppercase and lowercase letters :)

Mathematics:

Find a deck of cards. Play a game of war with your parents or your older siblings. How to play: Split the deck evenly between the two of you (or more!). Keep the cards down, and says "1, 2, 3, flip!" and flip one card over. Whoever has the highest number gets to keep the cards and add it to the bottom of their pile. The game is over when one person is out of cards. Another way to play is the person who has the lowest number gets to keep the cards! The kids love this game!
