Announcements: Home Reading

There seems to be some ongoing confusion around our home reading program. We are happy to provide you with books that your child can read at home. We encourage your child to read to you for a minimum of 5 minutes every night, which is why we exchange books daily (which takes Mrs. Tortola about 30 minutes everyday). However, this is a complementary program that we offer to supplement your own books at home. We have limited number of books for each level and do our best to send home different titles at the correct level every night. It's actually a good thing that books are read more than once. You can talk about the story, practise the vocabulary in it, practise fluency (reading quickly), etc.

The books that should be recorded in the log are only books that are sent home by us that your child is reading to you. Once your child independently reads 30 home reading books, they will receive a prize. Also, the levelling system we use to level the books isn't perfectly consistent, so some books may be harder than others.

Thank you for your understanding, and don't forget that there are a lot of options in Scholastic for you to order.
