Welcome back to my blog :) I hope everyone had a wonderful break! It's great to be back at school! Although a break was very much needed, I was ready to get back to work :) It's taking us a little bit of time to get adjusted and back into routine, but I think by the beginning of next week we'll be good to go :)
I thought I would share with you some fun updates, important information, and other general things that have been on my mind!
New Month, New Attendance
Every month we use a new attendance on the SMARTboard. Here is this months! All students are able to find their first names, so within the next couple of months, we will start using last names, and eventually move to telephone numbers and birthdays :)
Welcome!
We have a new student in our class. Her name is Rayanne! She is in SK and will be with us for the rest of the year :) We are working hard to make her feel welcomed to our class family. We're excited to have you!
Character Education Update
As you know, we're launched our theme of "The Friend Ship" last month. Ever since, we've been having lessons on how to be a good friend. As a pirate on the Friend Ship, there are 5 rules you must follow. We're going through the rules one at a time, and the first rule on the Friend Ship is to use kind words, and to be kind in general. We've learned what kind words are, how to use them, what happens when we use hurtful words, and how it makes us and our friends feel. We've also learned what to do when someone uses hurtful words. Today, we practiced what to do when someone chooses to use hurtful words or is being mean to us. We reviewed out W.A.I.T strategy to remind us of what to do :)
It's easy to throw this up in the classroom and hope students use it, but more challenging to encourage them to use them in actual situations. I thought that by roleplaying, students would have a chance to see and practice what to do. Here's an example :)
Up next, we will go into more depth of what sharing looks like in relation to being a good friend :)
Literacy Update: Y as a Vowel
Today we learned about when y is a considered a vowel. Check out the video to see exactly what we learned! :)
Our Next Inquiry?
Can you guess what we're going to focus on for our next inquiry? ;)
Have a great night! See you on Friday :)
