Delayed Friday Update! Friday, November 28th, 2014

Hi everyone!

I apologize that this update is a tad late. We had a super fun week (once again!) in room 110 :) Here is a breakdown of our week :) There's quite a bit. Enjoy!

Literacy Update

This week we introduced a new activity at Literacy centres: shaving cream spelling! With just a tiny bit of shaving cream, students can practise printing their letters and spelling words in it :) As messy as it is, it's a lot of fun! Keep practicing printing those letters at home!

On Thursday, we learned about our next reading strategy-

Stretchy Snake tells us to stretch out the word by sounding it out. We've been practising this a lot during our Literacy lessons! We are becoming quite good at sounding out words!

I caught JK Lily taking the initiative to do some writing at the creative centre on Friday. She was making an animal graph and was trying to spell it out. Knowing our letters, sounds, and letter formation  makes it much easier to spell tricky words Great job, Lily!

Crock a  Doodle - SPOILER

On Wednesday, Tracy from Crock a Doodle came in to help us make a Christmas/Winter craft- for you! (shhh!) She showed us what we were making and students were so excited to get started! We all made a little something for your keepsakes and we hope you like them! They look amazing!!!

Tribes Update

Congratulations goes out to our 3 winners for this month's Tribes focus of "Responsibility". These students show responsibility by always bringing their important bags, doing their daily jobs, and cleaning up after themselves. Great job! For the month of December, we will be working on Collaboration :)

Learning Centre Fun

We've got lots of photos to share this week from our learning centres :) We were busy taking photos for our Monthly Writing Journal and therefore have lots! Every month, students have a picture taken of them playing at a learning centre and then they write about it. We are excited to see the growth of your child's writing over the course of the year! Enjoy the pictures :)

Reading Buddies with Mr. McCormack's Grade 5 Class!

Moustache Day!

At the very last minute, we learned that Friday was Moustache day! Some students came with them and we snapped some pics :) My apologies for not advertising it! We let students make them during learning centres if they wanted to :)

Volcano and Lava Update!

This week we painted our volcano- it looks amazing! Soon, we will be experimenting with different types of lava to decide on which one we want to use for our big experiment!

Additional Updates
  • On Tuesday Dec. 2nd, we have a 911 presentation. Local police officers (volunteers) will come in and teach students what to do in the event of an emergency and how to dial 911:)
  • Pizza money is due Dec. 11th and Scholastic orders are due the 4th!
  • We have our Holiday Gift shop beginning on Dec. 10th. More details to come on this soon.
  • For our Winter assembly, our class will be performing a song called, "I'm a Little Snowman"! We will send you details on how to dress your child, etc. soon :)
I hope everyone is having a great weekend.

See you soon! :)
