Literacy: Double Vowels

Last week and this week we are learning about "2 Walking Vowels" - when 2 vowels go walking, the first one does the talking, and says it own name! This works for the following combinations:

A

ai like in "sail"

E

ee like in "tree"
ea like in "sea"

I

ie like in "pie" (rare)

O

oa like in "boat"

U

ue like in cue (rare)

It of course doesn't work for some like oo, ou, which make different sounds, and you'll never see aa, ii, etc. Watch the following video for a better explanation! :) (skip to 8:00 min.)

Special Events: Tribes Fun

During our tribes activities, I have to supervise a group in a classroom, and today I got to be with four friends from our class! We were playing games to celebrate March's character trait focus which was respect :) One of the games was to write compliments about different people in their tribe and stick it on their back! It was a great feeling to receive them AND to give them to our friends :) NOTE: If your child comes home and says they won for this month, their certificates are still be printed and you will receive them when we do.

General Happenings: Sink or Float!

Yesterday we had another science experiment! We were testing out some things to see whether or not they sank or float. Some of them were surprising, like the wooden block!

Special Events: Twin Day!

Happy Twin Day! :)

Announcements: Updates and Reminders

Hi Parents,

Just a couple updates and reminders:

  • PLEASE send ALL money in a labeled bag or envelope. I simply can not keep track of where the money is coming from with 29 kids in the room while I'm emptying important bags.
  • I will be testing students over the next couple of weeks on their reading level. A reminder that the board's expectation for the end of JK is a level 2 and a level 4 for SK. This is a very lengthy process, not only because I have 29 students, but because if a student passes/fails a level, I have  to then retest them at (a) higher or lower level(s) until the correct level is reached. I will be sending home an update once all of them are complete.
  • If you are dropping your child off in the classroom late, please just drop them off at the door. They know what to do :)
  • Please send in your Reptile Man money ASAP ($3.25)
  • If you ever need to get a hold of me, the best time to reach me is before or after school. Simply call the office and leave a message and I will get back to you when I can.
Thank you for your support :)

Announcements: Twin Day!

We just found out on Thursday that this upcoming Wednesday, March 30th is Twin Day! Feel free to plan it out with some parents on the playground to dress your children in similar clothes. OR, you can be twins with Mrs. Tortola and I! We will be wearing a black top and blue jeans. We hope to see some of your participate!

Announcements: Stranger Danger

Hi everyone! We hope you are enjoying your Easter weekend :) We wanted to give you a heads up of what we will be learning about this upcoming week for our health unit. We will be touching on the subject of stranger danger. We wanted to give you a heads up since this can be a scary subject for a lot of kids. If you want to give them a heads up, that's up to you. We will, of course, broach this subject with great care.

Special Events: Egg Week! Day Four

Today was egg day! We had a lot of fun activities planned :) But we had to vote on the question of the day first!!

First off was dying our eggs! Thanks to everyone who brought in 2 or more, it was the perfect amount so that every child could dye one.. only a couple cracked in transit! The kids loved dying them and the eggs turned out great! A special thanks to Nevaeha's mom for helping out today.

Then it was time for our egg hunt!! We 'hid' close to 400 eggs. Thanks for the donations!

The kids had a great time :) Then it was time for our party! We had lots of delicious treats!

What a crazy day! But it was a lot of fun. I hope that everyone has a great long weekend, and a great Easter if you celebrate. See you Tuesday!
